Animal Medical Clinic accepts referrals from other veterinary hospitals for ultrasonography! Call to refer your patient today!
Ultrasonography allows our doctors to gain more in depth information about the appearance of your pet's organs than regular radiography (x-ray) can provide. Ultrasounds are often evaluated in conjunction with regular radiographs to aid in a complete diagnosis. This type of imaging is often used to evaluate the abdominal organs, including the liver, spleen, kidneys and bladder. Ultrasonography can also be used to evaluate the heart (echocardiogram) and determine chamber and valve function. Dr. Sheri Fastenrath has a special interest in ultrasonography and offers ultrasound services for our patients as well as other veterinarians' patients on a referral basis.
An ultrasound is a painless procedure in which high frequency sound waves (higher than humans can hear) are used to examine internal organs. The sound waves reflect off of organs and back toward the probe, creating an image that our doctors can evaluate. This type of examination takes 45 minutes to an hour on average and does not usually require any anesthesia.
Sometimes pets develop complicated problems that require the help of a veterinary specialist. For special cases like these, we work closely with a team of veterinary specialists, including an internist, cardiologist and radiologist. Your pet's ultrasound images, along with all other history and test results, can be sent to these specialists for a comprehensive opinion and treatment plan.
