Surgical Care
Any surgical procedure, no matter how minor, can be stressful for both you and your pet. At Animal Medical Clinic, we strive to make every surgical procedure as safe and comfortable as possible for our patients. You can rest easy knowing your pet receives the most advanced veterinary surgical care at our hospital.
All surgeries are performed in our state-of-the-art surgical suite, using the latest equipment and surgical instruments. We utilize advanced monitoring equipment to monitor your pet's vital signs during surgery. A warming pad and blankets are used to keep your pet warm and comfortable throughout the procedure and a trained veterinary technician also monitors your pet during surgery.
Dr. Fastenrath and Dr. Concannon have many years experience performing a wide variety of surgeries, including:
- Spay/Neuter Procedures
- General Soft Tissue Surgery
- Tumor Excisions
- Ectropion and Entropion Procedures (repairs to the eyelid)
- Repair of Stenotic Nares (pinched nostrils)
Before Surgery
Prior to surgery, all patients undergo a thorough physical examination and a series of laboratory tests. We use information from the examination and tests to detect any pre-existing conditions that may affect the use of anesthesia during surgery. The results of the laboratory tests are used to develop an anesthetic protocol that is unique to your pet.
After Surgery
Pets feel pain just like people. Pain management is an important part of our intra- and post-operative protocol. We believe that pets that are comfortable and in less pain heal more quickly. All surgical patients receive pain management medication following surgery. We may also send pain management medication home with your pet if necessary.
